The Juventus superstar has made the 50-man shortlist for a 16th straight year – more than any other player in history.
He has made the UEFA Team of the Year 13 times, including the past 12 selections in a row, while Messi has been nominated a 14th time overall and made the final selection 10 times.
After winning the UEFA Champions League in May, it will not surprise many that Liverpool have the most nominees with 10 stars, including African duo Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.
The 50 nominated players were selected by UEFA.com's editors and correspondents based on performances in European club competitions – namely the Champions League, the UEFA Europa League and UEFA Super Cup – as well as the players' domestic and international performances.
