UEFA Champions League
Result: Manchester City 1-2 Juventus
Date: 15 September 2015
Venue: Etihad
Goals from Mario Mandzukic and Alvaro Morata handed Juventus a 2-1 win over Manchester City at the Etihad in their opening Champions League tie.
City nearly broke the deadlock after just two minutes when Fernandinho played Raheem Sterling through on goal, however the winger was thwarted by a fine save from Gianluigi Buffon.
The visitors went close in the 14th minute from a set-piece, as Hernanes' curling free-kick from 25-yards out sailed agonisingly wide of the upright.
Chances were hard to come by for the English Premier League outfit, although they went very close in the 39th minute when Fernandinho fired a half-volley inches wide from the edge of the box.
City eventually broke the deadlock 10 minutes after the halftime break when Vincent Kompany's towering header deflected in off Giorgio Chiellini, who was credited with an own goal.
The hosts should have extended their moments later but Buffon denied Sterling in a one-on-one situation, before the Juventus goalkeeper denied Silva from close range.
The Serie A champions did managed to level matters in the 70th minute when Mario Mandzukic turned home Paul Pogba's cross at the near post.
Juventus then secured the win in the 80th minute when Alvaro Morata turned Mangala on the edge of the area, before firing an effort into the far corner.
City tried to hit back in the 88th minute through Yaya Toure but Buffon was on hand to deny the Ivorian with a fine save to ensure Juventus walk away with the three points.
