Liverpool dropped points on their return to the UEFA Champions League, as they drew 2-2 with Sevilla at Anfield on Wednesday evening.
The visitors broke the deadlock after just five minutes when Wissam Ben Yedder found the back of the net.
The Reds pushed for an equaliser and went close through Sadio Mane and Roberto Firimo before the 10-minute mark.
Liverpool eventually leveled matters in the when Firmino turned home Alberto Morena's cross from the left flank.
Jurgen Klopp's charges then took the lead in the 37th minute as Mohamed Salah's strike took a big deflection and sailed into the back of the net.
The host were then awarded a penalty just before the break when Pareja was adjudged to have handled in the box. Firmino stepped up and but his penalty crashed against the upright.
After quiet opening to the second half, Sadio Mane nearly added a third goal in 67th minute but his curling effort sailed just wide of the upright.
Sevilla then leveled matters in the 71st minute as Muriel played Joaquin Correa, who calmly slotted beyond Karius.
Klopp responded by introducing Philippe Coutinho five minutes later as they pushed for a winning goal.
Sevilla ended the half as the stronger side, although they were unable to claim a winning while the Reds finished with 10 men after Joe Gomez received his second yellow card of the game.
