Porto Stun Stuttering Chelsea

UEFA Champions League

Result: FC Porto 2-1 Chelsea

Date: 29 September 2015

Venue: Estadio do Dragao

Chelsea suffered defeat at the hands of FC Porto, going down 2-1 at the Estadio do Dragao in their UEFA Champions League tie on Tuesday night.

Iker Casillas was called into action as early as the sixth minute, as he pulled off a fine save to deny Cesc Fabregas from the edge of the area.

The FC Porto goalkeeper had to be at his best in the 13th minute when he came rushing off his line to deny Pedro Rodriguez, with the Chelsea forward through on goal.

The home side's first real opening came after 35 minutes when defender, Maxi Pereira, fired a stinging just wide of the upright from the edge of the area.

It was Porto who broke the deadlock in the 38th minute when Andre Andre slotted home from close range, after Yacine Brahimi's effort was saved by Asmir Begovic.

Jose Mourinho's men leveled with the final kick of the half, as Willian curled home a sublime free-kick into the far, which Casillas flat-footed.

Porto restored their lead shortly after the break when Maicon headed home Ruben Neves' in-swinging corner at the near post.

The Blues nearly hit back in the 53rd minute through Diego Costa, but the striker's curling effort from 20-yards out crashed against the crossbar.

Chelsea squandered a glorious chance in the 73rd minute when Branislav Ivanovic rose well to meet Fabregas' corner, however headed wide of upright with Casillas well beaten.

The woodwork came to the Blues' rescue in the 81st minute when Danilo's glancing header at the near post crashed against the upright.

However, Mourinho's men couldn't find the all important equaliser in the final stages of the half and were handed their first defeat of the group stage.
