Venue: Stade Louis II
Gonzalo Higuain played a starring role for Juventus, as he netted a brace to help the Serie A giants claim a 2-0 win over AS Monaco in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League semi-final.
The French outfit looked livelier in the opening exchanges and they nearly went ahead in the 17th minute through Kylian Mbappe, who was denied by superb save by Gianluigi Buffon.
Monaco carved out another opening after 21 minutes through Radamel Falcao but Buffon was once again on hand to deny the striker with a fine save.
However, it was Juve who broke the deadlock in the 29th minute as Dani Alves' fine flick teed up Higuain, who calmly slotted into the bottom corner from just inside the box.
The visitors ended the half as the stronger of the two sides, although they failed to add to their advantage as the score remained 1-0 at the halftime break.
Monaco started the second half with great intensity and should have been level in the 47th minute but Falcao failed to slot past Buffon from 12-yards out.
The game opened up after 55 minutes and Juve doubled their lead in the 59th minute as Alves once again picked out Higuain, who fired past Danijel Subasic with a first-time finish, 0-2.
Monaco responded with a double change after 67 minutes as Valere Germain and Joao Moutinho replaced Thomas Lemar and Tiemoué Bakayoko.
The changes certainly improved the home side as they dominated possession, although they struggled to break down the Juve defence.
Juventus opted for a change of their own with just 10 minutes remaining, as Claudio Marchisio made way for Tomas Rincon as they looked to protect the two-goal advantage.
Monaco continued to push for one goal in the closing stages, and they went close in the 90th minute when Germain's header was superbly tipped over the crossbar by Buffon.
Nonetheless, the visitors managed to see off the late surge and kept the clean sheet. They now head into the second leg with two vital away goals.
