The two five-time Ballon d'Or winners have shared the UCL Golden Boot award – along with Neymar in the 2014/15 campaign – for the past 12 seasons, but neither are close to the top so far this time out.
While Messi has scored just two goals so far in this Champions League campaign, Ronaldo has found the back of the net on just one occasion, and both the Juventus and the FC Barcelona forward are some way off the top 10 goalscorers in the competition.
The leading scorer in the 2019/20 UCL campaign so far is in-form Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski, whose four goals against Crvena Zvezda on Tuesday night took his tally to 10 strikes in five matches.
Second to the 31-year-old Poland international is 19-year-old Red Bull Salzburg wonderkid Erling Haaland, who has found the net on eight occasions in his first five matches, breaking several records along the way.
Tottenham Hotspur talisman Harry Kane is in third place with six goals, followed by Raheem Sterling, Heung-min Son and Lautaro Martinez, who have all struck on five occasions thus far.
