Pep: Why Man City Struggled At Anfield

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has explained why he thinks his side struggled in their 3-0 loss to Liverpool in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final tie at Anfield.

The Citizens were blown away by the Reds in the opening 45 minutes of the match as Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all found the back of the net.

Although the visitors ended up having 66% of the possession in the game, they could not register a single shot on target, and Guardiola made an attempt to explain why.

"We didn't create clear chances because they defended deep, we needed one goal but we couldn't score it," the Spaniard said, as quoted by the Daily Express.

"Nobody believes we will go through. We will convince ourselves tomorrow. I believe a lot in my team. They've shown me lots of good things over the season. We have 90 minutes more and we're going to try it.

"(Manchester) United is coming at home then we have three days to prepare."

The Spanish tactician also spoke about how important he thinks the clean sheet is for the Reds, but also insisted he side would come back stronger in the second leg.

"The clean sheet is so important for them, we are going to see how our players react," he added.

"Accept the defeat, accept Liverpool being clinical and precise, and we'll see what happens next week."
