A brace from Ilkay Gundogan, and goals from Sergio Aguero and Bernardo Silva secured an emphatic 4-0 win for City on Tuesday, which is the biggest away score recorded by an English club in the tournament’s knockout rounds.
The previous best was Liverpool’s 3-0 away win over Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven in the 2006/07 season.
City’s win on Tuesday hardly provided any shocks as the team’s form on the road has been excellent this season.
Guardiola’s men have won 16 of their 21 away games in this campaign, while they have already won more games this season (34) than they did last season.
The team’s four away strikes has all but secured their place in the next round of the competition, with the second leg scheduled for March 7.
