Opponent: What Pep Guardiola Told Me After Inspired Performance
Manchester City lost only their fourth game of the season this week, and the player who claimed the Man of the Match award has now revealed what Pep Guardiola said to him after his inspired display.
Mohamed Elyounoussi, who was born in Morocco but represents Norway at senior level, scored Basel's equaliser against City on Wednesday before assisting the 2-1 winner.
The 23-year-old winger, who has been linked with Arsenal, has now explained how Guardiola went to him after the game to praise his performance.
"Pep Guardiola came to me after the match and said I did a good job. That means a lot to me," Elyounoussi said, as quoted by Blick.
Basel were only the fourth side to beat Guardiola's side this season, and also became the first side to win at the Etihad Stadium since December 2016 – all this despite coming off a run of four losses in their previous five games prior to the clash in Manchester.
"Maybe it was because we had less pressure, that we had nothing to lose," Elyounoussi suggested.
"They are perhaps the best team in the world."
