Del Piero: Buffon Was Wrong To Criticise Referee!

Juventus legend Alessandro Del Piero has said he does not agree with Gianluigi Buffon's criticism of English referee Michael Oliver after the Turin side was dumped out the UEFA Champions League by Real Madrid via a last-minute penalty.

Chiellini Accuses Ronaldo & Real Of Paying Ref

The Premier League official awarded a spot-kick in favour of the home side after Medhi Benatia was adjudged to have fouled Los Blancos forward Lucas Vazquez in the 18-yard box in the dying seconds of injury time.

While the decision divided many in the footballing world, the Italian goalkeeper went on a scathing attack, calling Oliver "an animal" and claiming he has "a trash can in place of a heart", which Del Piero believes was out of order.

"When Gigi spoke about the referee… I found it hard to understand, honestly," Del Piero said on Sky Sports.

"I don't understand why we should refer to the first leg, that's how football is and you analyse the moment, whether it's nice or ugly.

"I think, in a few days, he'll say different things about the referee than what he said."

The pair were teammates for many years with Juventus and Italy, and won the World Cup with the Azzurri in 2006.

Furious Buffon Slams Ref For Late Penalty Call

Del Piero made 706 appearances for the Bianconeri between 1993 and 2012, scoring 290 goals and assisting a further 68 strikes.
