Argentinian midfielder Javier Mascherano ha compared his international teammates, Sergio Aguero and Lionel Messi, ahead of Manchester City’s Champions League clash with Barcelona.
Mascherano was full of praise for Aguero, but added that he can’t compete with his Barcelona teammate, Messi.
“Aguero and Messi are very talented. 'Kun' is a great player with a good burst of pace in tight spaces and is fantastic one on one. He's very difficult to mark overall but no one compares to Messi because he's the best and no one is at his level,” he told Barcelona’s official website.
The 30-year-old then expressed his optimism ahead of the blockbuster showdown with the English champions on Tuesday and touched on last season’s clash at the same stage between the two teams.
“If we keep up our current good form then we'll have a great chance. We have all the tools to put in a good performance in Manchester,” he continued.
We've made more changes than they have and we have more new names,” he added. “They have the same coach and will try to go about things the same way. It'll be a similar tie and hopefully we'll get the same result.
“They will be focusing a lot on the Champions League because it's a key competition for them and they are trying to improve every year. They will be two tough matches because we're up against one of the top teams in Europe.”
Javier Mascherano has made 44 Champions League appearances for Barcelona since joining from Liverpool in 2010.
