After Juventus legend Gianluigi Buffon was sent off for protesting a last-minute penalty given to Real Madrid, which Cristiano Ronaldo duly scored, on Wednesday, a former player feels the goalkeeper should have punched the referee!
Stefano Tacconi, who played in goal for the Bianconeri between 1983 and 1992, believes match official Michael Oliver was wrong to award the penalty that sent the Italian side out of the UEFA Champions League this week.
The 60-year-old has insisted he would have punched the referee if he were Buffon, claiming it would have been great for the Juve shot-stopper to leave on that kind of note.
"Knowing I was going to stop, I'd have punched Oliver's face in," he told RMC Sport.
"It would have been a great end to a wonderful career.
"You can't give a penalty like that in the 95th minute.
"Psychologically, everyone is tense and you can't give a penalty like that."
Ronaldo's penalty goal saw Real advance from the quarter-finals with a 4-3 aggregate win. The semi-final draw will take place on Friday afternoon.
