Buffon Breaks Silence On Referee Rant

Gianluigi Buffon Breaks Silence On Referee Rant

Juventus legend Gianluigi Buffon, who was sent off in his side's clash with Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League last week, has opened up about his controversial comments he made regarding referee Michael Oliver.

In the second leg of Real and Juve's quarter-final tie last Wednesday, the Italian was sent off after protesting a last-minute penalty that was awarded to the Spanish giants, resulting in Cristiano Ronaldo effectively knocking the Bianconeri out of the competition.

After the match, Buffon harshly criticised the referee for what many believe was a clear penalty, but he has since taken a difference stance on the matter, although he still feels Oliver should not have awarded the spot-kick.

"I'm not saying it wasn't a penalty, I'm just saying that it was doubtful," he told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

"Twenty seconds from the end of the match, an experienced referee who had already been in such high-profile matches would, in my opinion, have made another decision.

"This isn't a situation where you can say it's a definite penalty.

"He's a boy who will have a great career, he's just had some bad luck here.

"I think a young referee was sent to officiate an important match, although he's already well established and has shown his courage.

"Unfortunately, the boy was put in a situation that was too complex, too tangled and too big."

'Buffon Should Have Punched That Referee!'

This is the second year in a row that Juve have suffered against Real, who beat them in the final of the UCL last season.

Editor please go dig the juicy news. The defender already got interviewed and he admitted to have made contact and kicked Lukas but thought he won't fall. He even said they(Juve) were going to also scream "penalty" if it was their player kicked in Madrid area as it's part of the Game.

So in other words the ref should have robbed Madrid because the match was in its last seconds? Or you saying it's right to kick an opponent in the dying minutes and walk away with it bcz there must not be a penalty in the last seconds? It's Madrid who were going to feel robbed as yur defender kicked Lukas.

what Buffon tries to say is that the ref should have robed Madrid for JUV . does he even know the ref did not represent juv nor Madrid ? the ref represented the UEFA champions league and for Buffon this should be the starting point. if he wanted to ague why not right a letter of complaint to the UEFA Board if its not a penalty then a rematch be awarded to him and his club mxm. does he even know its a crime to rob others whats rightfully theirs

This legend must just humble himself and calm down. He agrees it was a penalty and that's it. Tackling a striker from behind on the penalty area is a penalty. That's it. Buffon thinks that if the incident happens in the last minute of play, it should be judged differently. What kind of rule is that? If the striker had not be brought down, he could have scored anyway.
