French publication L'Equipe has put together a list of the 100 greatest players in European Cup and Champions League history. Click here to find out if Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo made the top 10.
L'Equipe, which played a massive role in the creation the European Cup in 1954, has now come up with a points system to rank the greatest players to have graced Europe's premier club competition.
Points were awarded for individual and collective stats such as games played, final appearances, trophies lifted, top goalscorers and goals scored per player.
As an example, Samuel Eto'o, who has won three Champions League titles and scored 30 goals in 78 appearances, is in 43rd position.
Other greats such as Johan Cruyff (14), Xavi (15), Iker Casillas (17) and Edwin van der Sar (20) sit just outside the top 10, while Ryan Giggs (25), Roberto Carlos (27) and Franz Beckenbauer (30) failed to breach the top 20.
