Suarez seemed to react in a furious manner when Valverde took him off in their 1-0 win over Sporting Lisbon after enduring a frustrating 89 minutes.
The manager has since insisted he replaced the striker with defender Aleix Vidal because the match was extremely tight, and labelled Suarez's actions as "silly".
"It was silly, the match was too close," the Spanish tactician said, according to Marca.
"There was no other reason for the change."
Despite his reaction, Suarez admitted his coach knows best after the game.
"What we have to do is adapt to what is happening in a match, the coach knows what to do, he doesn't use me in a fixed area of the pitch," he said.
Suarez has struggled for form this season, having scored just twice in seven games for Barca so far.
