Balotelli On Target As Nice Held By Ajax

Mario Balotelli found the back of the net for OGC Nice, as they drew 1-1 with Ajax Amsterdam in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League play-off tie.
Both sides struggled to carve out clear-cut chances in the opening 20 minutes, and were restricted to efforts from distance.
The deadlock was eventually broken after 32 minutes as Balotelli fired home from close range with Jean Seri claiming the assist.
The Dutch giants pushed for an equaliser in the remaining stages of the first half, but were unable to bypass the Nice defence.
Four minutes into the second half and Ajax were level thanks to a close-range strike from Donny Van de Beek.
The home side pushed for a go-ahead goal as the second half went on, with Balotelli being denied by some good defending.
Ajax nearly took the lead in the 72nd minute when Van de Beek's corner found Davinson Sanchez, who saw his header crash against the crossbar.
Nice did have a chance to win the game in stoppage time but Alassane Plea failed to direct his close-range effort on target after being picked out by Valentin Eysseric, as the clash ended in a draw.
