A brace by Romelu Lukaku and an injury-time penalty by Marcus Rashford secured the Red Devils a memorable 3-1 victory over PSG in the second leg of their round of 16 clash on Wednesday night .

As a result, the Premier League outfit advanced to the quarter-finals via the away goals rule following an aggregate score of 3-3.

United, are, however, not the only team to have recorded such a memorable feat. Their latest achievement forms part of a list recently compiled by FourFourTwo detailing some of the most incredible comebacks in European competitions.

In a repeat of the 2009/10 Champions League final, defending champions Inter Milan were pitted against Bundesliga side Bayern Munich in the round of 16 the 2010/11 campaign.

Determined to make amends for finishing as runners-up to Inter the previous year, the Bavarian giants secured a 1-0 victory in the first leg of the tie courtesy of Mario Gomez' injury-time winner. However, Inter showed their mettle, becoming only the second side in the Champions League era ever to overturn a first-leg home defeat, securing a famous 3-2 victory with strikes from Samuel Eto'o, Wesley Sneijder and Goran Pandev.

Real Madrid, who were on the end of a 4-1 thumping at the hands of Ajax Amsterdam this week, also feature on the list.

In the 2003/04 campaign, Los Blancos were pitted against AS Monaco in the quarter-finals. After securing a 4-2 victory in the first leg, many believed the Spanish giants had already booked their tickets to the next round. However, Monaco had other ideas.

With Real loanee Fernando Morientes getting on the scoresheet in both legs, Monaco did the unthinkable, running out 3-1 victors in the second leg to progress via the away goals rule.

After being acquired by Qatar Sports Investments in 2011, PSG set about their quest of winning the Champions League title.

Backed by billionaire buyers and world-class players, the Ligue 1 giants looked poised to progress beyond the quarter-finals of the competition in their fifth season of trying. However, they failed to live up to the hype.

After securing a shock 4-0 victory at home in the first leg of their last 16 tie against Barcelona in the 2016/17 campaign, Les Parisiens were left stunned when their four-goal deficit was overturned courtesy of an own goal by Layvin Kurzawa, a brace by Neymar and further strikes by Luis Suarez, Lionel Messi and Sergi Roberto.

Other teams that form part of the list compiled by FourFourTwo include Ajax Amsterdam, AC Milan and Bayer Leverkusen – click through the gallery above to see 11 teams who made astonishing comebacks in the Champions League!
