Ronaldo 44, Messi 45

With just one month left of the calendar year, Lionel Messi is ahead of longstanding rival Cristiano Ronaldo by just one goal. Which of the two superstars will end 2018 with more strikes?

The duo are once again going head to head to become the top Europe-based goalscorer of the calendar year, with Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski currently the only other marksman close to the pair.

Messi netted his 45th goal for club and country on Wednesday night, while Ronaldo sits just one strike behind his nemesis. Lewandowski follows in third spot with 41 goals so far.

Ronaldo and Messi’s goal race continues in the month of December, and you can follow the action on SuperSport. The Portuguese forward has the slight advantage of having one fixture more with Juventus than his counterpart has with Barcelona.

Here are the duo’s December fixtures:

Messi: Villarreal (H), Cultural Leonesa (H), Espanyol (A), Tottenham Hotspur (H), Levante (A), Celta Vigo (H)

Ronaldo: Fiorentina (A), Inter Milan (H), Young Boys (A), Torino (A), Roma (H), Atalanta (A), Sampdoria (H)

DStv Compact customers can now enjoy LaLiga action on SS7, the official home of Spanish top-flight football, while Serie A will be shown on SS9.

Meanwhile, Mohamed Salah also has an outside chance of catching the two superstars. The African currently sits on 37 goals for Liverpool and Egypt in 2018, but still has eight games to play in this calendar year.

Salah’s next chance to add to his tally will come in the Merseyside derby against Everton on Sunday, while the Reds will also face Manchester United (16 December) and Arsenal (29 December) during the festive season.

Follow all the Premier League action over the packed Christmas period live on SS3.
