On Thursday, the seven lucky winners of the Shield Sbonis’ iDiski campaign plus two talents from Ghana, one from Zimbabwe and one from Zambia trained at Cobham, Chelsea's state-of-the-art training facility.
The day started with a light training session at one of Cobham's 36 football pitches, before everyone rested during lunch.
Afterwards, the players of the Shield Africa XI were able to meet some of their heroes, namely 2018 FIFA World Cup winner Kante, 2012 UEFA Champions League winner Luiz and Nigerian winger Moses.
The first team trio were joined by Ghanaian Blues legend Michael Essien, and all four took their time to greet the excited youngsters before posing for pictures with every single one of them.
Not only did the Shield winners chat and pose with the stars, they also lined up together for a short football tennis tournament. Kante, Luiz, Moses and Essien all played alongside a few of the Africa XI youngsters, with Brazilian Luiz making sure his team ended up being the winner.
The glorious meet-and-greet between aspiring talents and the Premier League stars past and present ended in another football tennis game, this time the Africa XI against the Chelsea stars, before Luiz, Moses and Essien took part in a Q&A session with the youngsters.
On Friday, the Africa XI will face a team made up of Chelsea legends including Essien and Celestine Babayaro, and they are ready to give them a tough match.
