According to The Times, the tactician was excluded from the club's negotiations with Everton midfielder Ross Barkley.
The player was expected to sign for the Blues on the last day of the window, but he decided against doing so, with the report claiming that Barkley wanted the manager present if he was to put pen to paper.
The Toffees playmaker reportedly wished to discuss what sort of role he would have under Conte at Chelsea, perhaps to get clarity on his potential playing time at the club.
However, Chelsea apparently had other plans following the Italian's involvement in negotiations for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, a deal that did not happen as the England international instead chose to join Liverpool.
The report also claimed that the London club's board has not blamed Conte for the failure to sign Chamberlain as they do not want to put any more strain on an already tense relationship.
Contrary to reports on deadline day, it is now believed Barkley did not undergo a medical at Chelsea, but rather that he decided against the move while making his way from Liverpool to London.
