Siphiwe Mkhonza was involved from the start in the Shield campaign that will see three, not just one, lucky winners travel to Stamford Bridge by the end of this month.
Even though all three, namely Quad Roskruge, Joshua Roman and Alanzo Khun, won the trip of a lifetime, Mkhonza explained why Quade was named the overall winner of the campaign.
“The reason why we chose Quade is because we wanted to show what South Africa is about in terms of skills, in terms of expressing our- selves,” he told Soccer Laduma.
“But we have to teach them the right areas to express ourselves. We see Neymar does it, but he does it progressively.
“This is what we are trying to show Chelsea, because they are expecting something different and we want to show them what SA players are all about.”
Chelsea stars, including Victor Moses and Marcos Alonso sent a video message to the winners, saying they are looking forward to train with them.
Quade, Joshua and Alonso were three of over 500 participants in the Shield Sbonis’ iDiski campaign that saw Mkhonza and his team host trials in Cape Town, Pretoria, Johannesburg, Blomfontein and Pretoria before 26 SA talents were invited for a final trial week, where three coaches from Chelsea selected the winners.
In addition, one lucky super fan, namely Elias Moloi, also win himself a trip to Stamford Bridge, where he will meet the Chelsea stars.
