Eden Hazard put in a great performance as Chelsea ran out 3-1 winners over Rafael Benitez’ Newcastle United.
Newcastle got away the first shot at goal when Mikel Merino capitalised on a Cesar Azpilicueta's error but his shot was easily gathered by Thibaut Courtois in the Chelsea goal.
The visitors’ next shot found the back of the net through Dwight Gayle, who punished Chelsea for yet another error at the back to give his side a 1-0 lead after 11 minutes.
Chelsea had a penalty appeal waved away by the referee after Alvaro Morata was bundled over by keeper Karl Darlow but the official was not convinced it was a penalty.
Eden Hazard reacted quickest after a rebound to level matters for his side in the 21st minute.
Morata who was giving Newcastle defenders a hard time finally managed to bag a goal after he connected with a Victor Moses cross to put his side ahead for the first time in the game with 10 minutes until halftime.
That was the final bit of action as the Blues overturned a deficit to go into the halftime break with a 2-1 lead.
Hazard was having a blinder of a game and the winger tried his luck from range in the 55th minute but his effort was deflected wide and out for a corner.
Azpilicueta sent in a great delivery which was met by Moses, whose header was well saved by Darlow who kept the hosts’ lead to one goal.
Chelsea were awarded a penalty in the 74th minute which Hazard audaciously chipped through the middle to extend Chelsea’s lead to 3-1.
The Belgian had an opportunity for a hat-trick just a minute later but his attempted chip was denied by keeper Darlow who made a good save.
Newcastle survived a Chelsea onslaught an the match ended with a 3-1 victory for Antonio Conte and his men.
