On Saturday, Chelsea's Victor Moses became the latest African star to lift the famous English trophy after his side beat Manchester United 1-0. It was the Nigerian's first FA Cup title after losing in last year's final against Arsenal, and he became the latest African in a long list of legends from the continent to lift the trophy.

The first African players to feature in the FA Cup final were actually South Africans. Back in 1953, Bill Perry, who was born in Johannesburg, scored the winning goal in a seven-goal, 4-3 thriller for Blackpool against Bolton Wanderers. It would take another 13 years before Albert "Hurry Hurry" Johanneson became the first black player to make an FA Cup appearance. Unfortunately, though, the Germiston-born South African's Leeds United lost 2-1 to Liverpool.

Durban-born Bruce Grobbelaar was luckier and won three FA Cup winner's medals with the Reds. The 60-year-old, who made more than 600 appearances for Liverpool, has won it just one time fewer than Didier Drogba, who was often called "Mr. FA Cup".

Few players have dominated the FA Cup like the former Chelsea superstar. The retired Ivory Coast international has won four FA Cup winner's medals and will always be remembered for scoring in all of those finals – twice getting the only goal of the game too.

Drogba is, to date, one of the joint most successful Africans in FA Cup history. The Ivorian was the standout player in Chelsea's African contingent that won the FA Cup four times in six years between 2006/07 and 2011/12. Michael Essien, Salomon Kalou and John Obi Mikel also won the FA Cup four times during their time with the Blues.

This year, Chelsea have once again partnered with Shield South Africa to give local football talents the chance of a lifetime. The FA Cup winners teamed up with Shield and Orlando Pirates, and will invite one lucky winner to train at Chelsea's state-of-the-art training facilities in London. In addition, the winner will also receive a professional contract with Pirates' MultiChoice Diski Challenge team.
