The Blues and Shield South Africa are in the second year of their partnership for the Shield Sbonis' iDiski campaign, with Orlando Pirates coming on board this year.
After more thab 600 SA talents were scouted, Shield initially announced three winners on Tuesday. Twenty-year-old Ryan Adams from Durban, 20-year-old Thulo Thibatsi from Johannesburg and last year's top three finalist, 21-year-old Joshua Jerome Roman from Cape Town, were set to travel to London, with one of them gaining a contract with Bucs' MDC side next week.
On Wednesday, they arrived in London to train at Chelsea's state-of-the-art training facilities at Cobham. But it was not only the top three players jetted out to the United Kingdom. Four additional players were selected from the top 25 in South Africa to join the Shield Africa XI. The additional players are: Kyle Meth from Durban, Marco De Bruin from Cape Town, Kgotso Mogagabe from Johannesburg and Mpumelelo Daddyboy Zwane from Pretoria.
The seven South Africans are joined by other talents from the continent to form an Africa XI that will take on Chelsea legends on Friday.
During the first day of the trip, the Shield winners were welcomed at Stamford Bridge and received their own Chelsea kit in the first team dressing room, before playing a round of FIFA in the dugout at the stadium.
On Thursday, all African guests will train at Cobham under the supervision of coaches from Chelsea's set-up, and they might even meet a few first team stars before facing a team made up of Blues legends and academy coaches on Friday.
