Result: Juventus 2-0 Cagliari
Date: 21 November 2020
Venue: Allianz Stadium
Cristiano Ronaldo was back among the goals for Juventus after netting a brace in their victory over Cagliari on Saturday night.
Bianconeri were without regular centre-backs Leonardo Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini but welcomed back Matthijs de Ligt, who got his first start of the season alongside Merih Demiral in the heart of defence while Cagliari were missing Diego Godin after he tested positive for Covid-19.
Juventus found the back of the net in the 11th minute after Federico Bernardeschi smashed home a strike at the back post after a square ball from Alvaro Morata but the goal was disallowed for offside on the Spaniard.
The hosts came close to breaking the deadlock in the 25th minute after Morata flicked a ball that needed a tap-in inside the box but Sebastian Walukiewicz made a timely clearance to deny Cristiano Ronaldo a big chance to tap inside an open net.
Ronaldo eventually broke the deadlock for Juventus seven minutes before the break with a cracking strike from the edge of the box into the far corner after he was teed up by Bernardeschi.
Ronaldo doubled the lead for Andrea Pirlo's charges just before the break with an out-stretched shot at the back post after a flick on by Demiral from a corner and Bianconeri went to the break with a two-goal cushion.
The Old Lady were threatening early on coming from the break and Demiral came close to making it 3-0 eight minutes inside the second stanza with a header from Juan Cuadrado's corner that came off the crossbar.
Ragnar Klavan thought he had pulled a goal back for Cagliari in the last 20 minutes with a flying header from a short corner but the goal was disallowed for a head collision with de Ligt inside the box.
Pirlo's charges were managing the game in the closing stages, denying Cagliari any sniff at goal by keeping possession and in the end they held on to go up to second on the log, just a point behind leaders AC Milan, who have a game in hand.
