Former FC Barcelona striker Samuel Eto’o has already left the training at his new club twice, but Sampdoria president Massimo Ferrero jokingly announced the Cameroonian isn’t pregnant.
Eto’o left last Friday’s training session after just twenty minutes with no explanation, and already refused to train two weeks earlier.
Reports claim the relationship between the African legend and club coach Sinisa Mihajlovic isn’t the best, but the Sampdoria president tried to play down the incidents.
"Eto'o's stomach ache? He isn't a woman, he isn't pregnant,” Ferrero jokingly responded to questions about why Eto’o didn’t make Sampdoria’s starting XI on Tuesday.
"Was Eto'o dropped for tactical reasons? Life is full of surprises.”
Sampdoria drew the game 1-1 and Eto’o only made an 83rd minute substitute appearance.
The 33-year-old joined the Serie A side on a three-and-a-half year contract during the January transfer window, after failing to impress at Everton during the first half of the season.
Eto’o is arguably the most decorated African player of all time, having won 18 trophies for club and country – including three Champions League titles and two Africa Cup of Nations tournaments.
