Palermo went ahead in the 26th minute courtesy of a curling effort from Paulo Dybala, after Lazio had lost possession in the middle of the park.
However, goals from Stefano Mauri and Antonio Candreva ensured they claimed all three points, while Palermo had Edgar Barreto sent off in stoppage time.
Empoli moved further away from the relegation zone, after seeing off Chievo 3-0 courtesy of a brace from Riccardo Meggiorini and a solitary strike from Daniele Rugani.
