Goals from Paulo Dybala and Mario Mandzukic handed Juventus a comprehensive 2-0 victory over Atalanta at the Juventus Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The hosts showed their intent from the onset, Leonardo Bonucci and Mario Mandzukic having their shots well saved in the opening few minutes of the clash. Juventus continued to dominate the early exchanges and Paul Pogba came close in the 17th minute, before Alberto Grassi’s 20th minute strike just missed the top corner.
Soon after, Jasmin Kurtic came close to opening the scoring for Atalanta a few minutes later, but it was Paulo Dybala who would open the scoring for Juve with a superb strike from outside the box to hand the home side a 1-0 lead.
It seemed they took their foot off the pedal but had a couple of lovely chances on the stroke of half-time, the teams heading into the break with the score at 1-0.
Almost straight after the restart, Mario Mandzukic grabbed Juve’s second to extend their lead to 2-0 only a few moments into the second stanza. They continued to dominate with some more half chances, but Mauricio Pinilla almost pulled one back for Atalanta in the 64th minute, just grabbing his shot wide.
Gabriel Paletta conceded a penalty in the 77th minute, but Pogba missed the spot-kick after a great save from Sportiello. The tempo decreased a bit with the match drawing to a close, and Alvaro Morata almost extended the hosts’ lead on the stroke of full-time but his effort was well saved, and 1-0 is how the clash ended.
