Coppa Italia
Result: Juventus 3-2 Genoa
Date: 13 January 2021
Venue: Allianz Stadium
Juventus advanced to the Coppa Italia quarterfinals with a 3-2 extra-time victory over Genoa at Allianz Stadium on Wednesday night.
After the weekend's win over Sassuolo, Juventus Andrea Pirlo made nine changes, which included leaving Cristiano Ronaldo on the bench.
Pirlo's men got off to the perfect start as Giorgio Chiellini played in Dejan Kulusevski, who took a touch before firing past Genoa shot-stopper Alberto Paleari.
In the 23rd minute, Kulusevski turned provider and cushioned a delightful into the path of Alvaro Morata who finished into the bottom corner for the two-goal advantage.
Five minutes later, Genoa managed to get themselves back in the game as Lennart Czyborra nodded home a cross from Edoardo Goldaniga.
With Juventus leading heading into the second half, Morata had the chance to extend inside the box and the striker proceeded to tease Goldaniga, before smashing a shot from close range that Paleari bravely blocked away to safety.
Marko Pjaca went agonisingly close to pulling the visitors level soon after with a long range strike that crashed against Gianluigi Buffon's crossbar.
The equaliser eventually arrived with 16 minutes remaining, with Filippo Melegoni finding the top corner with a wonderful strike from distance.
Ronaldo only made his arrival in the 88th minute for Wesley shortly before the game went to extra-time.
However, the pressure finally paid off in the 104th minute as Morata set up Hamza Rafia for the close-range finish, which sealed the Old Lady's spot in the next round.
