Having cemented his spot in Real's starting XI over the years, the Brazil international's future at the club has been cast into doubt after somewhat of a decline, resulting in academy graduate Sergio Reguilon often being given the nod ahead of the 30-year-old.
Spanish publication Marca recently reported that Zinedine Zidane has started privately discussing the futures of some of his players, with Marcelo said to be one of four players who could be poised to leave the Spanish giants at the end of the current campaign.
However, the latest reports from Football Espana indicate that Marcelo is now set to stay at the club and will see out his contract, which expires in 2022.
It is believed that Zidane's return to the club has prompted the fullback to considerably raise the standard of his game and, as a result, the four-time UEFA Champions League winner is said to have been reassured of his role at the club.
It has been claimed that Real are in the market for a new left-back to take over the reins from Marcelo in the future, and Olympique Lyon star Ferland Mendy is apparently considered to be the ideal candidate by both the club and Zidane himself.
