On Thursday, reports emerged from Spain suggesting that Los Blancos had reached an understanding with the Premier League side over the future sale of Kante.
According to Defensa Central, Real have a verbal agreement with Chelsea that will see the LaLiga giants obtain first option for the French star's signature when the Blues are ready to sell.
Kante was reportedly a priority target for Real boss Zinedine Zidane, but Chelsea refused to entertain any offers due to their current transfer ban, which prevents them from signing any players until next season.
In order to expedite Eden Hazard's move to the Santiago Bernabeu, however, the five-time Premier League champions were reportedly willing to entertain the agreement, particularly as it places no obligation on the club to sell one of their star players.
Kante is also said to be happy to stay at Stamford Bridge, and will not look to leave the club unless placed on the transfer list.
The France star joined Chelsea from Leicester City in 2016, and won the Premier League Player of the Season award in his debut campaign with the club.
