Real Madrid were reportedly rivalling Manchester United and FC Barcelona in the chase for the "next Cristiano Ronaldo", but it is now claimed they have dropped out of the race to sign the wonderkid.
Los Blancos were said to be after Joao Felix, who has just come off an incredible breakout season in Portugal. The 19-year-old helped Benfica win the Liga NOS title and is said to be his country's biggest talent since Cristiano Ronaldo.
According to Marca, Real initially attempted to sign the wonderkid for €80 milliion (R1.32 billion) and wanted to loan him back to Benfica for another season, but the Spanish giants are now said to have ended their pursuit of the player.
They instead want to focus on the arrival of Eden Hazard, who is understood to be close to becoming a Los Blancos player.

Sky Sports have reported that Chelsea and Real still need to agree on a transfer fee, with the 28-year-old hinting that he would leave the Blues when quizzed after the UEFA Europa League final this week.
Felix, meanwhile, is wanted by United, Manchester City, Barcelona and Juventus, but Benfica have insisted any interested club must meet his €120 million (R1.98 billion) release clause.
The youngster scored 20 goals and assisted another 11 strikes in 43 appearances across all competitions for Benfica in the 2018/19 campaign.
