With Zinedine Zidane's Real Madrid set for a squad overhaul ahead of next season, the LaLiga giants are reportedly close to signing their next player, who is considered to be Marcelo's long-term replacement.
Zidane has reportedly already begun preparations for the new season in the wake of Real's disappointing 2018/19 campaign, which saw the Spanish outfit finish without a single piece of silverware.
Recent reports suggest that Chelsea superstar Eden Hazard will officially join Real after the UEFA Europa League final on 29 May, with similar having been reported of in-form Eintracht Frankfurt striker Luka Jovic.
The reported acquisitions of Hazard for €100 million (R1.6 billion) and Jovic for €60 million (R958 million) will go a long way in helping Real solve their goalscoring problems, with the latter being earmarked as both competition and a long-term replacement for Karim Benzema.
According to El Mundo Deportivo, Real are now close to securing the services of in-demand Lyon defender Ferland Mendy.
The 23-year-old has impressed in the 42 appearances he has made in all competitions for the Ligue 1 outfit this season, leading to interest from FC Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain.
It has been claimed that there is already an agreement between the two clubs, which will see Mendy complete his move to Madrid in a deal that could cost up to €50 million (R800 million).
While the move is yet to be confirmed, it is believed that Real academy graduate Sergio Reguilon, who made 22 appearances in all competitions this season, could be loaned out, while Theo Hernandez, who is on loan at Real Sociedad, appears likely to exit the club during this window.
Los Blancos have already confirmed the signings of defender Eder Militao and forward Rodrygo Goes from FC Porto and Brazilian outfit Santos, respectively, ahead of the 2019/20 season.
