With Spanish giants Real Madrid interested in a Brazilian wonderkid who plays for Arsenal, the London club is reportedly set to triple his currently weekly wage in a bid to keep him in England.
According to the Daily Mail, the 13-time UEFA Champions League winners have expressed a desire to sign Gabriel Martinelli.
With 10 goals in 21 matches so far for the Gunners, he recently became the first teenager to reach double figures in a season at Arsenal since Nicolas Anelka, who, incidentally, left the club for Los Blancos in 1999.
The former Ituano striker was on target in his side's 2-2 Premier League draw with Chelsea on Tuesday night, scoring with a brilliant finish after an excellent solo run from inside his own half.
The Spanish giants are believed to be keeping an eye on the youngster, but reports now suggest that Arsenal are prepared to triple his wages to reward him for his impressive form in his debut campaign in London, and to fend off interest from Real.
Martinelli is said to be on £10 000 (R188 000) a week at the Gunners, but the club is reportedly set to increase his weekly earnings to about £30 000 (R564 000).
While he has scored three goals in the league, and four in the Carabao Cup, the Brazilian's best form has come in the UEFA Europa League, having scored three and assisted another three in five UEL matches so far in this campaign.
