Bayern Munich and Liverpool have everything to play for when the two European giants meet in the UEFA Champions League tonight – here is how the two teams line up!
UEFA Champions League
Teams: Bayern Munich vs Liverpool
Date: 13 March
Venue: Allianz Arena
The first leg ended in a 0-0 draw at Anfield, which means any win or score draw for the Reds would see them book their tickets for the quarter-finals.
Jurgen Klopp's men will hope club superstar Mohamed Salah has his scoring boots on tonight, with the Egyptian having netted just once in his past eight appearances across all competitions.
Liverpool have experienced a slight dip in form, winning just three of their past eight games, while drawing the other five. As a consequence, they have been overtaken at the top of the Premier League table by Manchester City.
Bayern, meanwhile, climbed back to the summit of the Bundesliga log after winning an impressive 12 of their past 13 games in the German top flight. They looked particularly strong in their latest two wins, a 5-1 victory at Borussia Monchengladbach and a 6-0 hammering of Wolfsburg.
The Bavarians have also won their past four home matches against English sides, while Klopp's Reds have suffered four successive away defeats in the UEFA Champions League.
Despite the two clubs' rich European history – Bayern and Liverpool have both won five European Cups – tonight's clash will be only their seventh head-to-head contest. Each side has collected one win so far, while the other four games ended in a draw.
Bayern have progressed from each of their past seven round of 16 ties, and were last eliminated at this stage in 2011 by Inter Milan, while Liverpool reached the UCL quarter-finals in five of their past six attempts.
The German giants will be without the suspended Thomas Muller and Joshua Kimmich, with Corentin Tolisso also sidelined due to injury and Kingsley Coman only fit enough for the bench. For Liverpool, Joe Gomez, Dejan Lovren, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita are all on the treatment table and will therefore miss the match.
Here is how both teams line up:
Bayern: Neuer, Rafinha, Sule, Hummels, Alaba, Javi Martinez, Thiago, Gnabry, James Rodriguez, Ribery, Lewandowski.
Liverpool: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson, Milner, Wijnaldum, Henderson, Mane, Salah, Firmino.
