Report: Alvaro Morata To Chelsea Very Close
Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata is reportedly "very close" to joining Chelsea, with talks between the two clubs said to be at an advanced stage.
The Spaniard was apparently close to signing for Manchester United earlier in the window, but the clubs could not agree on a fee, as confirmed by Jose Mourinho.
"Yes, we have had interest, that is obvious and it's public. We have not come to an economic agreement, that is obvious as well. But it's Real Madrid's right to ask for their players the amount of money that they want," the Portuguese tactician told reporters during United's pre-season tour of the United States, according to the Daily Telegraph.
United signed Romelu Lukaku for €84 million (R1.25 billion) instead, reportedly stealing the Everton striker from under Chelsea's noses. The 24-year-old was expected return to the Blues, but the Red Devils acted quickly after talks with Los Blancos over Morata broke down.
According to Sky Sports journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, the Blues have now turned their focus to Morata and talks are at an advanced stage.
Real will reportedly attempt to use the funds for the striker, who netted 20 goals across all competitions last season, to lure AS Monaco wonderkid Kylian Mbappe to the Santiago Bernabeu.
