What Man Utd Boss Told Messi After Barca Defeat

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed what he told Lionel Messi in the aftermath of the Red Devils' 1-0 loss to FC Barcelona in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final tie on Wednesday night.

The LaLiga giants secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory at Old Trafford courtesy of a first-half own-goal by United defender Luke Shaw.

Despite succumbing to defeat, the home side did well to subdue the Blaugrana and, in particular, the individual brilliance of five-time Ballon d'Or winner Messi.

After the Argentine was left with a bloody nose and eye after a strong challenge from Chris Smalling just past the half-hour mark in the encounter, Solskjaer was spotted in conversation with Barcelona's skipper following the final whistle, and he has since revealed what he told the superstar.

"'All the best and see you next week'. That's it," he said when asked about the brief conversation he had with Messi, according to the Daily Mirror.

The Norwegian tactician felt his side did well to keep Messi quiet for most of the encounter, but also felt his men needed to be more clinical in front of goal.

"He (Messi) is a fantastic player. We did as well as we could against him. We kept our shape well," Solskjaer added.

"It could have gone both ways. We didn't hit the target and that's one of the disappointing things.

"We'll go there with work to be done but we will create chances.

"We know we're not going to create loads of chances, so we have to take the ones we get, and today you have to soak up the pressure.

"I expect them to want to kill the tie and put the sword into us (in the second leg) but we have to soak that pressure, break. But, at times, keep the ball better than we did today."
