With it being well-known that Lionel Messi has struggled for Argentina over the years, former US president Barack Obama has used the FC Barcelona superstar as an example to send across a message.

Speaking at the EXMA conference in Bogota, Colombia, Obama seemed to echo the thoughts of many Messi fans who have defended the 31-year-old's misfortunes when representing his country.
With the 2019 Copa America around the corner, and Messi set to lead his country once again at a major tournament, Obama has insisted that no matter how great one is, reaching the greatest heights on your own is almost impossible.
"Even people that we consider geniuses work with other people in order to develop their style," he said at the conference, according to Livesoccertv.
"In Argentina, even though Messi is wonderful, they have problems winning the World Cup.
"My advice to young people is that we have to recognise that very few people achieve great things on their own."
