Reports on Thursday suggested that the Argentine has halted contract talks with the Blaugrana, and is considering an exit from the club in 2021.
Messi has since been linked with a move to David Beckham's Inter Miami FC, with it being said that he is fed up at Barcelona, who are now four points behind Zidane's Real in the LaLiga title race.
Following Los Blancos' win over Getafe on Thursday night, the French manager was asked about the Argentine's future, and admitted that he does not want to see the 33-year-old leave Spain.
"I don't know what will happen, but we hope not because he is in this league and we want the best in this league," he said, according to Goal.
Messi has had several spats with his club's board over the past 12 months, including fallouts with sporting director Eric Abidal and president Josep Maria Bartomeu.
