Why PSG Could Be Forced To Sell Neymar Or Messi

It appears that Paris Saint-Germain could be forced to sell one of Neymar or Lionel Messi due to new Ligue 1 wage bill rules.

Messi Reacts To Man City Collapse

According to the Daily Star, as a result of PSG having 18 players on the French top flight's highest earners list, Ligue 1 is set to launch new wage bill restrictions that could have big implications for the champions.

It is reported that the financial body in charge of supervising the French clubs' accounts, the DCNG, has stated that clubs in France will no longer be able to have a wage will that is bigger than 70% of their income.

PSG are believed to be currently sitting at 91%, which means they could be forced to sell a number of top earners to avoid sanctions.

Neymar is reportedly said to be on around £850 000 (R1.6 billion) a week in Paris, while Messi, who has a year remaining on his contract, is said to earn around £700 000 (R1.3 billion) every week. Kylian Mbappe, meanwhile, is thought to be on a weekly salary of £460 000 (R910 million).

The 2018 FIFA World Cup winner is hotly tipped to leave PSG at the end of the season anyway, although it is well known that the Paris-based giants are working hard to tie him down to a new deal, which is likely to come with a significant salary increase.

This could mean either Neymar or Messi are sacrificed in the coming window, with the Brazilian having been linked with a departure due to his strained relationship with the team's supporters.

In Messi's case, the Argentine was believed to be open to the idea of returning to Barcelona before Spanish media claimed it would be impossible for the Blaugrana to re-sign the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner due to the LaLiga club's economic situation.

Several more players are tipped to depart PSG at the end of the season, including Angel Di Maria, Leandro Paredes and Mauro Icardi, while Keylor Navas is likely to leave in order to find regular game time.
