Many were surprised to not see superstar Lionel Messi at Andres Iniesta’s big farewell press conference last week, where the Spaniard revealed that he would be quitting FC Barcelona at the end of the season. It has now been explained why the Argentine was not in attendance.

The 33-year-old finally confirmed the suspicions of many when he announced he will officially be leaving the Catalans once this season concludes.
After 22 years at the Blaugrana, Iniesta will likely join the Chinese Super League, and will be leaving LaLiga as the most decorated Spanish player of all time.
Messi’s absence at his teammate’s teary press conference was notable, and even surprising to many, as most of his other colleagues were in attendance.
Spanish football expert Guillem Balague explained the 30-year-old’s non-appearance on social media outlet Twitter, claiming the Argentine had planned long ago to renew his passport, as well as his wife and children’s on Friday ahead of the upcoming World Cup.
Messi and Iniesta have been two of the most dominant players over the last decade and more, having won everything there is to win at club level with the Spanish giants.
Iniesta made his first team debut in 2002, and has gone on to make 671 appearances for the club.
