The Portuguese was replaced by Marco Asensio in the 82nd minute after his side had just scored to make the scoreline 2-1, but had to watch from the bench as his team conceded a late equaliser to drop another two points.
Zidane has since explained that he took Ronaldo off due to tactical reasons, and LaLiga expert Guillem Balague has now claimed that the 33-year-old was upset because the coach did not inform him of his plans.
"He was replaced by Zinedine Zidane when Real Madrid were 2-1 up away at Levante, and this was only the second time he was replaced this season," Balague wrote in a column for Sky Sports.
"The first time was Sevilla, having scored two goals himself and being 5-0 up.
"But at the weekend he was unhappy because Zidane had not told him he was going to be replaced – hence the reaction.
"He thinks Real are winning because of him, probably rightly so, and considers any no-planned substitution as an affront. He will be exactly the same at 40."
