After Lionel Messi officially handed in a transfer request on Tuesday, what Ronald Koeman told him in a meeting that seemingly triggered his action has now reportedly been revealed.
The 33-year-old told the club he wants to leave immediately via a fax on Tuesday, and informed them he will not turn up for the start of pre-season training, according to TYC.
He also asked to be allowed to leave for free in reference to a clause in his current contract that allows him to walk away without a fee being paid.
Barcelona have acknowledged that they received an official transfer request from Messi, per Associated Press, but do not want to let him leave for free.
Meanwhile, reports in Spain and Argentina suggest that a conversation between new coach Koeman and Messi upset the captain.
"The privileges in this squad are over, you have to do everything for the team," Koeman reportedly told the Argentine, as quoted by Diario Ole.
"I'm going to be inflexible; you must only be thinking about the team."

The coach's words were reportedly the final straw in Messi's decision that it is time for him to close his Barcelona chapter.
At this point, everything seems to lead to a legal battle between the superstar and his club, with the Blaugrana arguing that the clause that would have allowed to him to leave for free had to be triggered by the end of May.
Messi's camp, though, believe it can still be activated before 31 August due to the coronavirus-interrupted season. They are understood to argue that the 2019/20 campaign is only officially completed at the end of this month.
