The former Real Madrid forward has returned to action with the Bianconeri with three goals in two matches, taking his tally up to 28 strikes for the calendar year so far.
This means the 35-year-old is out on his own as the leading goalscorer at club level across all competitions in 2020, with Bayern Munich's Robert Lewandowski the closest to him on 26 goals.
Behind the Polish international is Lazio forward Ciro Immobile, who finished as the top scorer in Serie A in the 2019/20 campaign, on 21 strikes, tied with Inter Milan forward Romelu Lukaku, who has been outstanding under Antonio Conte since his exit from Manchester United.
Messi still has some catching up to do if he is to finish this year at the top of the ranking, having scored a total of 17 goals thus far, which places him at seventh on the list.
