An investigation into Paris Saint-Germain's finances by UEFA is believed to have raised suspicion as to how the French giants funded their mega moves for superstars Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.

According to the Financial Times, the Ligue 1 giants have exaggerated the value of certain sponsorship contracts they said were worth €200 million (R2.9 billion).

This is believed to have raised concerns as to how the Qatar-owned club funded their deals for Neymar and Mbappe, who together will end up costing about €422 million (R6.2 billion).

The French club has since rubbished the reports, although if they are found guilty, PSG could face a massive fine or be banned from taking part in the Champions League.

UEFA has reportedly hired Octagon, a sports consultancy firm, to look into PSG and their sponsors as there have been worries that some of their income to fund the deals for Neymar and Mbappe came from outside parties.

PSG were found guilty of breaching Financial Fair Play regulations four years ago, for which they were fined €60 million (R886 million).
