With Lionel Messi still tipped to swap FC Barcelona for Pep Guardiola's Manchester City at the end of the season, an update on his future in Spain has reportedly been revealed.
The 33-year-old is heavily linked with the Premier League giants, but that could all change once Barcelona's new president has been voted in.
That is according to Sique Rodríguez from Carrusel Deportivo, who has claimed that Messi would be happy to stay at the Camp Nou if Xavi Hernandez is brought in as manager.
Leading presidential candidate Victor Font has promised to bring the Spaniard in as first-team boss should he win the upcoming election, a move that could see Messi stay in Spain.
It is stated that the six-time Ballon d'Or winner would extend his stay with the LaLiga giants beyond 2021 if his former teammate takes over, despite interest from Manchester City.
While there have been contrasting reports regarding the English club's pursuit of Messi, it does appear they would still consider signing him next year if he leaves the Blaugrana as a free agent.
