A former Real Madrid sporting director believes there is only one star who could be Cristiano Ronaldo's heir at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The Portuguese forward put his future at Los Blancos in doubt immediately after the 2017/18 UEFA Champions League final, stating during a post-match interview that it may be time for him to move on from the club.
Jorge Valdano, a former Real director, has since claimed that Brazil international Neymar could be the ideal replacement for Ronaldo.
"I must say that Neymar is at the level of Real Madrid," he told L'Equipe.
"For me, he is the closest heir to Cristiano Ronaldo.
"It seems to me a legitimate aspiration to bet on a player of his talent that will reach its fullness in the next five years."
Valdano also commended Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain for pulling off the Neymar deal last season.
"It has been a great success for PSG to manage to recruit Neymar," he added.
"That gave the Parisian club another dimension in the world of football."
Neymar is currently preparing for the 2018 World Cup with Brazil, who will open their Russia 2018 campaign against Switzerland on Sunday.
