FC Barcelona's captain remains outside the top 10, but is tied with the players in 10th and ninth place, although he has played more matches and therefore only places at 11th.
Messi has scored nine goals across all platforms in 2020, while his counterpart Ronaldo has struck 14 times in just 12 matches for Juventus since the turn of the year in league, domestic cup competition and Europe.
On Saturday, the Portuguese equalled the tally of Borussia Dortmund's Erling Haaland and he is now just one goal shy of Bayern Munich's Robert Lewandowski. What counts in Ronaldo's favour is that the two Bundesliga players' league season has ended, while he has eight Serie A matches remaining.
Being just one goal off the top spot, the 35-year-old would back himself to finish the 2019/20 campaign ahead of current leader Lewandowski, although the UEFA Champions League in August will also be key to the ranking.
The ex-Real Madrid talisman will, however, have Atalanta forward Josip Ilicic to watch out for, with the Slovenian having scored 13 goals in just 12 matches in 2020. Click through the gallery above to see the top 10!
Note: Goals in the domestic league as well as UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League were taken into consideration for this list.
