The 19-year-old Paris Saint-Germain sensation netted his 11th Ligue 1 goal of the season against Lille, helping his side to a 2-1 victory – their 12th win in as many league games.
Mbappe is followed by Nantes forward Emiliano Sala, who became only the second player in Europe's top five leagues to reach double figures in goals.
Neymar, meanwhile, sits in joint-third spot after scoring his ninth Ligue 1 strike of the campaign. He shares his position with Genoa's Krzysztof Piatek and FC Barcelona's in-form forward Luis Suarez, who has netted five times in his past two LaLiga games.
Further down the ranking, Bafana Bafana forward Lebo Mothiba has caught up with Ronaldo and Messi after scoring his seventh strike of the 2018/19 season in his side's 1-1 draw with Toulouse.
Mothiba, Ronaldo and Messi are just three of 15 players who have scored seven league goals this season so far.
