The Argentine is currently the top earner in football when comparing basic salaries, as L'Equipe recently pointed out.
Mess is believed to earn €8.3 million (R132 million) a month before tax and excluding income from sponsorships and endorsement deals, taking his annual salary to €99.6 million (R1.6 billion).
Cristiano Ronaldo is the highest-paid player in Serie A, and second-highest in football overall. With a monthly income of €4.7 million (R75 million), however, he pockets €3.6 million (R57 million) less than Messi does every month.
Neymar is the top earner in Ligue 1, where he receives €3.06 million (R49 million) monthly from Paris Saint-Germain, while Alexis Sanchez's €2.2 million (R35 million) salary at Manchester United makes him the highest-paid player in the Premier League, and Robert Lewandowski's comparably low monthly salary of €1.3 million (R21 million) at Bayern Munich makes him the top earner in the Bundesliga.
Astonishingly, Lewandowski, Sanchez and Neymar earn €6.56 million (R104 million), which is €1.74 million (R28 million) less than Messi.
